About William Powell

William Powell is a lifetime fitness enthusiast and is at his peak physical condition at age 49.  Through his journey to this peak conditioning he has also become a nutrition and wellness enthusiast.  It is very evident today that we are drastically damaging our selves and our children with our food choices.  Obesity and diet related degenerative diseases are rampant among adults and children.

William became interested in nutrition through competitive bodybuilding, but the more he learned, the more he wanted to learn.  Wellness has become a passion.  “Old school” bodybuilding says that in order to grow muscle and stay lean, you should live on chicken, tuna, sweet potatoes, broccolli, eggs and oatmeal.  That is true, but it is not realistic to try to live your life like that.  Thorugh much research and trial and error, William has learned that proper nutrition is attainable with lots of variety and flavor if a few principles are followed.  He has used these principle in everyday life as well as developing his body to the peak conditioning that allows him to compete with and beat guys half his age on the bodybuilding stage.

He became physically active at a young age working on his families farm in Lockhart, SC.  He also competed in multiple sports in school including basketball, football and track.  He attended Charleston Southern University on a track scholarship.  While on the track team, he became interested in weight lifting, setting many records in the weight room at school.  After graduating college, William decided to try his hand at bodybuilding.  He had a very successful start winning a show in Hilton Head, winning the Mr. Charleston and getting runner-up in the Mr. South Carolina.  He decided to stop competing after the Mr. South Carolina due to complications from a back injury sustained in high school and because of the pressure to use performance enhancing durgs.

Through the years, William stayed active through bike riding and racing, as well as running 5Ks and 10Ks, but there was always a desire to compete again.  As he approached age 40, he decided to try his hand at bodybuilding again as a masters (over age 40) competitor.  About that time he also saw a flyer in his gym advertising a drug tested bodybuilding show.  He decided to check it out, and immediately began training for his re-entry into the bodybuilding arena.  Since then he has earned professional status in two drug tested organizations and won overall championships in 3 of North Carolina’s non drug tested shows.

Not everyone has the desire to be on the bodybuilding stage, but everyone can glean from the information that William has gathered on his journey to the bodybuilding stage.  He is eager to share his knowledge in an effort to help others obtain the quality of life and energy level that he has attained through proper nutrition and physical activity.
